“Leadership is an opportunity to share real-life positive and negative experiences with staff, giving me the ability to tap into the fears, desires, and needs of others. It is a platform to be creative, learn from each other, and identify and provide direction through life’s experiences, challenges, successes, and failures.”
Dr. Green was a proud member of the Pontiac Community. She was a homeowner, a devoted worshiper at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, and a graduate of local colleges. She believed that leadership was not about status, but about connection.
Calandra’s career was defined by her advocacy for nursing, women’s health, and patient care. She envisioned a public health system rooted deeply in the community.
Since 2024 Dr. Calandra Green’s Memorial Scholarship has awarded $1,500 scholarships to qualified Oakland Community College Nursing students. These scholarships are given to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities through their involvement on campus and in the community, by breaking down racial and cultural stereotypes, and by promoting unity and equity among all people.
